* Pen Making

I am proud to announce that I have a new pen model. This one is a bit different to the others. A bit more unique, well entirely unique really as I can’t make the same pen twice, why? Because it is all done by hand. They are fun to make too which helps and I will never know what it will end up like when I start.

So, why is it called Baetylus? Well, that was a stone imbued that was imbued with what people thought was the power of life and was a path to the deities in power. Like the Gaea this design isn’t tied to a certain theme of pen models that I have made. I may do special one offs which follow a theme of the other collections in the future, I have an idea for a norse one for example.

How are they made? Well, with a file for the most part. I thread it and do all the needed drilling in the cap and barrel then I go at it with the file. Starting at the ends and working towards the middle. The threaded part is the weakest part and so you need to be careful otherwise you will warp the threads and it won’t screw together properly. Took me a few attempts to realise that.

This is a design also which looks good with a matte effect finish or a polished. Let me know what you think. Here are some videos of them. Hope you like them as much as I liked making them. The second one may not be to everyone’s taste as the shape is more irregular but it’s just fun and very tactile.
