Weekly update: Year 3 week 3: Prototypes and dry runs

* Pen making

Well hello all you lovely people, how are you doing? I am good, thanks. So the pen making stuff. I am still looking back through the stuff I have posted over the past two years and will do a proper time line of the pens I have made, might even upload it onto my website which would be interesting. Well it would be interesting to me, I’ll chuck it on the about me page, the page which sees the least amount of traffic. (Why am I expecting a glut of traffic to that part of my site now I have said that?)

Yes anyway, pen making. I have been busy testing new things. So I don’t know whether some of you have noticed but I have reduced the amount of models on my custom designs page. I will still make them as special requests but I will no longer be making them for stock pens for shows and what not. Oh and yeah, I will be at the London Pen show on July 25th (hopefully!) details about the show can be found [here](https://ukpenshows.co.uk/uk-pen-show-events/london-spring-pen-show/), hope to see some of you there.

I had a job for one of the models I have just removed, the Aequitas. It’s a simple design with parallel lines ending in matching curved edges with pattern matching if possible. The one I have just made [was possible](https://i.imgur.com/xcq7Cx8.jpg). The other client pen I have made is another one of our in house resins didn’t get the patterns matched quite [as well](https://i.imgur.com/KRhkXJF.jpg) but it’s not too bad.

I have been practising my work with metal as well today, I wanted to have a band just after the cap threads as well as a cab ring that the clip band sits inside of. I have also increased the overall weight of the pen by slipping a tube of brass into the barrel. Here it is in it’s current [state](https://i.imgur.com/d05bkt5.jpg) gunna look awesome when it is done, it’s a diamond cast blank.

I have also done a little photo shoot [showing you](https://i.imgur.com/t1ZH58n.jpg) the stages of [shaping a pen](https://i.imgur.com/TgjvPXl.jpg). From the right to the left we have a pen that is threaded and drilled but yet to be cut down or shaped, a pen that has been cut down and the join between the cap and barrel shaped slightly. The red one is one which has been shaped into steps, then finally on the far left is a pen ready for sanding.

I shall save showing off the prototype until next week. It’s a new shape and I have changed the positioning of the threads as well.

Well that’s it for this week, take care my friends, and most of all, stay safe.
