Pen making Update Y2 week 2: In times of turmoil, in times like these, beliefs contagious, Spreading disease.

So, it seems we are back to song lyrics for titles, this one I am fond of, I will make a pen themed to this band. Bonus points if you get the song and artist right.

So I have been diagnosed with the illness which is currently ravaging the world, not good, but I feel ok in myself. Luckily I don’t have any underlying problems. I haven’t really had a lot of time to go down into the workshop and get some things done so this update will be a bit bare bones. I have been mostly finishing up some things and then I had a little play.

*Pen Making

So I have got to stop staring paragraphs with the word ‘so’…

I have finished off the pens which will be heading to Singapore. They are pretty much ready to send out I just need to box them up and get them sent out. As they are for a wedding present I included a pen box for them. It is the first time I have tried to specifically do two pens which are exactly the same. Here they are capped and uncapped along with a bit of a closer image of the blue and the brown. The images really don’t do the material justice, they are so so sparkly and the material has a tonne of depth to it.

The other pen I finished off was for a pen swap where in return I will be getting one of my grail pens. This is one I am really very excited about, it was a pen I saw at the London Pen Show in October but I couldn’t afford it so I am really happy to be getting it in return for this. It is a custom order that has been in the planning phase on and off since before Christmas. Here it is capped and uncapped. It’s got an ebonite section and ends, I love this green.

Then there is this one. A bit different, right? This is what happens when I don’t get out too much, I start thinking up weird designs for pens. So the idea is that you can build the pen up from the parts and you end up with a pen witch a colour scheme of your choosing. I got distracted by my wife when I was making this and had a bit of an injury with the lathe, it cracked me across the knuckle, hurts but didn’t bleed much injury warning. The pen design still has some small snags I need to work out of it, my wife wanted this one though so she got a new pen out of my playing. Guess I will try to make myself one next see if I can improve upon the basic design. Let me know what you think of it.

*Other Stuff

I got my first Tomoe River note book! My mother in law made it and it is fantastic. I am using it as my pen and ink log book. I didn’t know what else I could use it for. It’s made really well, she doesn’t have a website yet and I have been trying to convince her to sell them. You guys like it? I am trying to judge the interest she would have.

Anyway that is it for this week, take care everyone and have a good weekend.
